    Welcome families!

I hope you had a wonderful summer! On behalf of our Bryant teachers and staff I want to extend a warm welcome for a brand new school year. We are all looking forward to an amazing year of learning for your students!

I know that families are anxiously waiting for news of their children’s teacher assignments. Like last year our teachers will begin phoning and emailing parents with this information beginning on Thursday afternoon before the Labor Day weekend. Please be patient as this process takes some time. If you do not receive placement information by Sunday the 4th, please send me an email at dksanger@seattleschools.org.

At Bryant we work hard to create an awesome learning environment for children. And just as we are committed to a year of growth for your children it will also be a year of growth for our teachers as well.

We will continue to focus on strengthening our grade level professional learning communities called PLC’s, and continuing to develop our intervention and extension team to provide support for students directly aligned with the efforts of our classroom teachers. This summer through the gracious support of our PTSA, 24 educators from Bryant took time away from their vacations to attend a 3-day workshop around best instructional practice for students following the PLC model. Just more evidence that we not only have the finest teachers in the city, but the most caring and supportive parent community as well!

Why are we doing this work around honing our professional learning communities? Foundational researchers such as John Hattie and the DuFours have proven that student-focused teacher collaboration and shared strategies centered on clear and relevant standards is best practice for teachers and that teacher collaboration is hugely more efficient and effective than working in isolation.

It is our building belief and collective responsibility that ALL students can and will learn at high levels, be supported, challenged and experience success at Bryant. We will instruct and encourage our students to grow intellectually as well as socially and emotionally. We believe that our instruction, care and nurturing are gifts for our students that they will benefit from for their entire lives.

In regards to social and emotional learning, we are excited to begin our building wide work with the RULER program. This respected program through Yale University is practiced in a large number of Seattle schools with great results. Through RULER we will continue to develop our school climate and culture in positive and healthy ways.

At Bryant we model our own learning for students. Our hope is that our children will see that their teachers and principals are students too. We never give up learning as we strive to become the best educators we can be. Your children are much more than worth the hard work.

I encourage everyone to read my Admin Corner entry in the Bryant Weekly for more information about school events and happenings. Admin Corner will also be posted on our school website.

Just a reminder that we have shifted to an earlier start time this year. School will now begin at 7:55 am and end at 2:05 pm. Playground supervision will begin before school at 7:35 am; please do not drop your child off before that time.

Thanks for supporting your school in the many ways that you do. We appreciate your support in the months ahead. Your active involvement makes all the difference for your children’s learning.

All the best for a fantastic school year.
